Asphalt plug joints (APJs) are used to seal movement and expansion joints and protect the joint from water, dirt, and debris. APJs are commonly used at the connection between roads, expressways, and bridges, as well as asphalt overlay projects. ASTM D6297 is appropriate for multi-layer and single layer application systems, as well as systems that use a combination of both. The spec describes methods to capture data on tensile adhesion, ductility, resilience, flexibility, and the material’s softening point.
